Woolwich Town Hall Wedding: Alexa & Kier’s Intimate Analogue Day (and the Pints After)
Some weddings don’t need a big production. Alexa and Kier’s was small, personal and completely them: a super intimate ceremony at Woolwich Town Hall, followed by creamy pints in their local pub.
I’m Paul, the Gingerbeard behind Gingerbeard Weddings, and this was one of my favourite days to photograph on film.
An Intimate Wedding at Woolwich Town Hall
Woolwich Town Hall is a brilliant choice for couples who want a proper ceremony without the fuss. It’s a beautiful civic building in south-east London, and it suits a small, personal day where the focus stays on the two people getting married and the few who matter most to them.
Intimate weddings are a joy to shoot in a documentary style. With a small group there’s nowhere to hide, in the best way. You get real reactions, quiet glances and unfiltered emotion, and none of it feels staged.

From the Town Hall to the Local Pub
After the ceremony, Alexa and Kier did what felt natural: they headed to their local for a few pints. No marquee, no formalities, just good people in a place that means something to them.
This is the part of the day I love most. A pub wedding celebration has a warmth you can’t plan, and shooting it on analogue film gives it a timeless feel. Grain, soft light and a pint in hand make for images that look like they could be from any decade.

Shooting Alexa and Kier’s Wedding on Analogue Film
I shared a selection of my analogue images from this wedding on Instagram, and Alexa and Kier’s day was the one I chose to finish on. Film suits a day like this. It slows everything down and keeps the focus on the moments rather than the gadgetry.
You can read more about why I shoot film on my analogue page.
The Time I Left My Camera at Heathrow T5
I’ll be honest, this was also the wedding where I left my camera in security at Heathrow Terminal 5. Not my finest moment, and at the time I was not laughing.
I can laugh about it now, thankfully. It’s a good reminder that even after hundreds of weddings, the best days don’t always go to plan, and that’s often where the best stories come from. If you’re a couple who’s relaxed about the odd bump in the road, we’ll get on brilliantly.
