”On the day Paul was approachable, extremely hard-working and professional; as his clients, Paul exceeded our expectations in all aspects. We had so much positive feedback from the guests generally.  We felt completely at ease and not at all overwhelmed. We haven’t received the full album yet as the wedding was just over one week ago but Paul has already released the teaser trailer for our wedding film and the sneak peeks which are all fantastic, as we expected. Based on our engagement shoot photos, which we love, we have no doubt that the album will be perfect.”

How did you meet?

We met at work many years ago when we were newly out of law school and before beginning our training contracts. It wasn’t a magical love at first sight story, and it would be fair to say Mark didn’t particularly warm to me at first! But after a few weeks, an awkward coffee machine conversation turned into an excitable chat about music (sparked by Bombay Bicycle Club). Out of nowhere we became best friends. Two years later, it became very obvious there was more there. Three years later we got engaged and married the year after.

How did you propose?

Mark took me on a surprise day trip to Cumbria. We went on a little adventure to some historical ruins then on a poetry walk through the woods. Part way along, we stopped for a break and Mark announced he had prepared a little poem himself… Several laughs and tears later, Mark asked me to be his wife! We then celebrated with champagne afternoon tea which Mark had booked at a beautiful castle.

How did you choose your venue Eden Barn?

I came across the venue online and instantly fell in love. It gave us goosebumps when we first walked in, and was so magical! We looked around at other venues but kept going back to Eden Barn- to us it was the only option!

What did you love about your dress, suit & accessories choices?

It took a long time for me to find my dress. Numerous shops across the north west had lovely dresses but nothing quite felt right- until finding Songbird Bridal in Keswick.

I loved the unusual design, and the soft flowing tulle overlay. The leaf detailing matched the botanical theme of the wedding.

The single layer veil was hand embellished by the Mother of the Bride, and I hand embellished my shoes.

My Tiffany bracelet was a wedding present from Mark- and the laurel design again fitted in with the theme.

Mark’s three piece, dark blue, wool blend (Tweed-esque) suit fitted the countryside barn wedding style. It was styled with a tartan bowtie, a nod to the family hertiage (along with the whisky bar!

Where did the ideas for your theme come from?

The love for nature and Cumbria inspired the botanical/ countryside styling of our wedding. There were lots of details refecting our joint hobbies and interests- like the musical themed table names, the movie Kraft paper bags of popcorn, the Lego cake toppers, and all the stationery was designed by my friend and groomsman including all our favourite things (from Bigs Macs to Kwak to the Grinch!).

Why did you choose your first dance song and where did it come from?

We were driving up to the Lakes the Christmas before our wedding and chose all our music for the day.

We always liken our story to that in When Harry Met Sally. And we both love old music. So what could be better than “It Had to be You” by Harry McConnick Jr. We knew instantly that was the perfect song- and it was made even better when performed by our wedding band, Twisted Tubes.

What was your favourite part of the day?

It is really hard to pick a favourite part of the day as it all went so perfectly! But a highlight was when, after cutting the cake, Twisted Tubes came bursting through the door performing “Thrift Shop” through the crowd up to the dance floor. Everyone was so surprised and instantly grabbed their phones to video the whole thing. We then went straight into our first dance, and the first words “It Had to be You” prompted a huge gasp/ “aww” from the guests. It was so lovely!

What made you choose Ginger Beard Weddings to capture your wedding day?

I saw some wedding photos on Facebook of someone I had been to college with, and loved the laid back, natural style which was different to most other wedding photos she’d seen before. The decision was made very easy for us after meeting with Paul- what should have been a short initial meeting turned into a five hour chat about everything from the wedding to films to PlayStation to food and drink. Instant click!

What advice would you give to any couples planning their wedding?

Enjoy the process! Don’t get caught up with every little detail as it won’t matter so much on the day. Focus on what is most important to you.

For brides on their wedding morning, leave plenty of extra time to actually get in your dress, have photos and a little drink before you leave. You’ll feel like you’re well ahead of time then the last two hours flies away!
