Donegal Wedding Photographer: Mollie & Charlie’s Love Story on the Edge of Ireland
A love story shot on location in Co. Donegal, on film.
The ocean air. The family home. A church on the edge of the world. I’m Paul, the Gingerbeard behind Gingerbeard Weddings, and Mollie and Charlie’s Irish wedding is one I’ll be telling stories about for years.
A Wedding on the Edge of the World
Co. Donegal is a special place to photograph a wedding. The wild coastline, the big skies and the sense of being somewhere properly remote give every frame a cinematic quality, and the day began at the family home before moving to a church that really did feel like it sat on the edge of the world.
For a destination wedding photographer, a day like this is a gift. The setting does a lot of the work, and the job is simply to be present for the people in it.

Guinness Cans and a Classic Morris Minor
One of my favourite details was the clatter of Guinness cans trailing behind a classic Morris Minor. It’s the kind of playful, personal touch that makes a wedding feel like the couple’s own, and it’s pure documentary photography gold. No staging, just a moment that happened.

An Outdoor Bathtub and a Cinematic Contrast
Then there was Mollie and Charlie in an outdoor bathtub: a striking, cinematic contrast against the landscape. It’s the sort of unexpected editorial-style portrait I love to make, where the documentary day and the stylised frame sit side by side.

Oysters, Guinness and a Legendary Donegal Pub
The day wrapped itself in the warmth of a legendary Donegal pub. The briny taste of fresh oysters, the slow settle of a perfect pint of Guinness and a dance floor that didn’t stop moving: this is what a proper Irish celebration is all about.
Thank you, Mollie and Charlie, for having me over for the craic. Sláinte!

Shooting a Wedding on Film in Ireland
I shot Mollie and Charlie’s day on film, and the landscape, light and texture of Donegal suit it perfectly. You can read more about why I shoot analogue on my analogue page.
