Rustic Barn Wedding in the heart of Herefordshire
Meg + Matt’s barn wedding on a farm on Hereford with their Welsh Collie + Family
Meg and Matt both work in the same hospital in Cardiff, they met on her first day in the hospital, each of them making excuses to talk to each other over the following months. Their first date was a coffee in the hospital cafeteria, the rest is history – they are such a low key couple, a barn wedding was the perfect fit for them.
Fast forward a few years to their wedding day, with priority guests their little boy Alfred and their Welsh Collie Ralph, both of who had the time of their lives at the wedding.
I turned up on the day to Matt dressing Alfred then popped over to see the girls getting ready in the main house, such a fabulously chilled group of girls but a lot of of fun.
Meg and Matt had their official ceremony a few weeks prior to the wedding so that they could have a humanist wedding, officiated by Megs Uncle Ian, who was on all accounts a cracking bloke. The ceremony was held outside in an open barn, with a roof for cover, Ceri, Megs sister gave a beautiful reading, they exchanged vows and then we headed inside for the confetti shot.
Everyone headed back outside for the drinks reception on the lawn, where Ralph the Welsh Collie was ploughing around playing with the kids and as many toys as he could find whilst the guests played lawn games or lounged around drinking champagne. There was plenty to keep everyone busy from tents for the kids and donkeys to table tennis and ten pin bowling, later scuppered by Ralph running off with the pins 😂.
When it was time for evening portraits we headed up the hill, along with Meg’s beautiful hand painted (by her sister Ceri) leather jacket with Mrs McKenna on the back, chasing the elusive light, which hid behind a cloud the entire time however we still managed to get some beautiful shots with the orchard in the background and Ralph occasionally showing his face.
We headed back down to the Haybarn when the sun was definitely stuck behind a cloud for the foreseeable and Meg nipped inside to get her second outfit, I was assured it was something to behold. She was not wrong, a backless, disc sequinned disco dress to rival pretty much anything I’ve seen in years.
Not more than 3 mins after they headed inside the Haybarn for the evening entertainment began did the sun break free from the clouds, bursting across the grounds – queue me sprinting through the barn to pull them back out, I don’t always do this, but today we couldn’t miss it, that dress, the light and the surroundings demanded this shot. Ralphy even readied himself for golden hour, making sure to photobomb as much as possible.
Once the sun was spent, and Ralph had ran off to destroy another bowling pin we headed inside for the evening entertainment, Das Brass, a brass band covering everything from ibiza club classics to classic chart hits. Towards the end of their set they headed outside with the entire party following them onto the lawn for an impromptu party outside – an absolute cracking end to a phenomenal day.
