How did you meet?

We meet in Peru in 2010. Hannah had just finished university and was travelling South America with 4 friends to celebrate. Daniel was travelling around the continent with a friend and we happened to be booked on the same group of 12 people for a 4 day trek to Machu Picchu … we finished the trek and spent the final night of the tour partying in a city called Cusco, it was Peruvian Independence day. There was many many pisco sours drank, and the rest is history!

How did you propose?

We had a mutual engagement. We decided we wanted to get married and planned our engagement together for about 3 months. Hannah picked her engagement ring and Daniel picked a watch. Daniel planned a few extra surprises on the actual day we got engaged but overall it was a joint effort. We always make the big decisions in life together so why would one of the most important be any different?

Why did you choose your venue?

We were living in Melbourne at the time and were inspired by the modern industrial influence of the city’s inner suburbs and by the food that comes out of the Melbourne’s amazing cafe/restaurant scene. We looked at a number of “industrial” venues in Manchester but they didn’t quite spark the emotion we were seeking or the vision we had. As soon as we visited Gorilla we knew it was the one. We especially loved that it wasn’t a traditional wedding venue, in fact they had never done a full wedding before. They got right they got behind the idea and supported us to create our dream day was incredible.

Gorilla offered everything we wanted in one package, right in the centre of Manchester which was perfect for our guests coming from different parts of the globe.

We can’t speak highly enough of the staff, from the guys who spent days on end helping us plan, to the kitchen, to those behind the bar on the wedding day, they were all amazing. We wouldn’t change a thing about the venue and everything that came with it.

What did you love about your dress, suit and accessory choices?

Hannah wore a dress by Australian designer Wishbone and Ivy. Daniel and the groomsmen wore Next suits. Gorilla is a non-traditional venue that has so much character that we didn’t want or need our outfits to detract from that.

Where did your ideas for your theme come from?

We didn’t have a particular theme as we were inspired by the venue itself. We just made sure all the choices we made didn’t detract from it. The guys at Frog came out and saw the venue and help us pick the right floristry to compliment the venue and we did lots of table and other decoration ourselves online from Australia.

Why did you choose your first dance song and where did it come from?

We chose ‘I love you always forever’ by Donna Lewis. It was re-released as a dance track in 2016, the year we got engaged and at the time we imagined having an acoustic duo singing it at our wedding. We stuck with it and Noah’s Ark absolutely smashed it. We kept the ‘just us’ dancing part short and asked others to join us pretty quickly. The whole day was about the people there to celebrate with us so it was never going to be a look at us moment. We think the song worked perfectly to bring people on the dancefloor for a boogie with us!

What was your favourite part of the day?

It’s hard to pick a single moment of course, but a couple come to mind. The humanist ceremony that Stef at Stefanie Fetterman Ceremonies worked with us for months to put together was truly unique and memorable. We also thought the first dance was brilliant as the band did an amazing job performing it and everyone jumped on the d-floor to join us to celebrate.

We also loved the 20-30 minutes we spent doing the dusk shoot with Paul and his team as they stayed back and just let us enjoy the moment and reflect on the day so far together. Lots of our married friends had given us the advice to find that time and that’s when we did it – great advice!

What made you choose Ginger Beard Weddings to capture your day?

We saw Paul’s Instagram very early on, nearly 2 years before the actual day. As soon as he got back to our enquiry his energy was high and matched our excitement and enthusiasm for the day. We caught up with Paul in the NQ a couple of days later and signed on the spot. His talent was obvious and we didn’t need to look any further. Our instinct was spot on, every single person who has seen our photos has commented on the uniqueness, authenticity  and quality of the collection.

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding day?

Our ethos for the day was to make sure every one of our guests had a brilliant time and walked away having been glad to be a part of the most important day of our lives… we hope they all did!

How did you meet?

After Jo had an unsuccessful date with a friend of mine, we ended up working together and sharing a desk . It only took about two weeks before we were together.

How did you propose?

We both proposed at the same time. For our four year anniversary we had a trip to Puglia planned and we had both decided it was the time! We both hid our rings in our sunglasses cases (the only place the other wouldn’t look) and when jo got out a small box on our first night at dinner, I told her to f*** off, stormed upstairs and promptly came back down with my own little box! It couldn’t have been more perfect – it was amazing to be so on the same page!!

How did you choose your venue?

We wanted to be in the heart of London, and we wanted to make it ours – we didn’t want a cookie cutter venue, we wanted a blank canvas.

What did you love about your dress, suit & accessories choices?

Our outfits were a surprise to each other but they complimented the other really perfectly – we had amazing flowers in our hair and bouquets from the girls at worm and they really made everything so harmonious

Why did you choose your first dance song and where did it come from?

Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac because it always comes on at the right time.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Couldn’t possibly choose, but the ceremony was so special.

What made you choose Ginger Beard Weddings to capture your wedding day?

Because you’re the best!

What advice would you give to any couples planning their wedding?

Everything will work out, don’t sweat the small stuff and make sure you have flat shoes to change into 100%.
