Hannah & Daniel

Gorilla Manchester Wedding

As soon as I met Hannah and Dan in TAKK in the Northern Quarter I knew we had the same energy/excitement. They were over from Melbourne on a whistle stop tour of Manchester organising their wedding suppliers before they had to catch a flight back.

They had chosen Gorilla a bar/gig space just off Oxford Road in Manchester City Centre. It’s nestled under one of the railway arches using all reclaimed wood and furnishings making it a truly unique wedding venue.

Alternative Wedding Venue

The wedding was in the middle of the famous heatwave in 2018. The year England got so close to lifting the World Cup and as luck would have it the final whistle blew during the first kiss as England beat Sweden in the quarter finals to ruptures of cheering. A fitting end to the ceremony.

As we spilled out onto the streets we were greeted by hoards of England fans chanting and waving at Hannah and Dan. Beer spilled in and around us as well as England flags waving in the blistering heat.

Manchester City Wedding

I knew this would be a good party as Hannah and Dan revelled into the wee hours. Good food, booze, friends and an awesome wedding venue. Thanks for letting me party with you guys!

Thanks for the words…

We meet in Peru in 2010. Hannah had just finished university and was travelling South America with four friends to celebrate. Daniel was travelling around the continent with a friend and we happened to be booked on the same group of twelve people for a four day trek to Machu Picchu. We finished the trek and spent the final night of the tour partying in a city called Cusco, it was Peruvian Independence day. There was many many pisco sours drank, and the rest is history!

We had a mutual engagement. We decided we wanted to get married and planned our engagement together for about three months. Hannah picked her engagement ring and Daniel picked a watch. Daniel planned a few extra surprises on the actual day we got engaged but overall it was a joint effort. We always make the big decisions in life together so why would one of the most important be any different?

Asylum Chapel weddings are always fun to shoot. When Jo and Saskia got in touch I knew it was going to be an awesome wedding. Located in the heart of Peckham tucked away out of sight, it really is a quirky hidden treasure.I instantly fell in love with Jo and Saskia because of their lust for life. They are creatives living in London with a passion for food and their gorgeous dog Pepperoni Puppy (yes you read that correctly).

During the ceremony they blasted out ‘I’m a believer’ by The Monkees. It was a raucous rendition which set the tone for the rest of the wedding. After an epic confetti throwing, the couple were whisked away in a classic Ford Mustang to their reception at AMP Studios in Shoreditch.

The speeches were incredibly emotional, the food divine and everyone danced into the early morning to an eclectic mash up of 90s classics and 80s bangers.

Alternative Wedding in London

Don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Jo and Saskia had to say.

After Jo had an unsuccessful date with a friend of mine, we ended up working together and sharing a desk . It only took about two weeks before we were together.
We actually proposed at the same time. For our four year anniversary we had a trip to Puglia planned and we had both decided it was the time! We both hid our rings in our sunglasses cases (the only place the other wouldn’t look) and when Jo got out a small box on our first night at dinner, I told her to fuck off, stormed upstairs and promptly came back down with my own little box! It couldn’t have been more perfect – it was amazing to be so on the same page!!
We wanted the venue to be in the heart of London, and we wanted to make it ours – we didn’t want a cookie cutter venue, we wanted a blank canvas and The Asylum and AMP Studios were perfect.
